Why alert volume misleads auditors
High alert counts look like vigilance. In workflow audits they often signal noisy rules, rushed clearances, and thin rationales—especially when volume spikes without a matching rise in confirmed fraud.
Sample by decision quality, not by ticket count. Pull cases where overrides happened quickly, where customer complaints followed a clearance, and where tools disagreed. Those slices reveal process stress better than a volume chart.
Pair volume with time-to-decision and reopen rates. If analysts clear twice as many alerts in the last hour of a shift, treat that hour as a risk window in your map.
Volume is a clue. It is not proof that the workflow is healthy.
